Daniel G. “Dan” McKeeth, age 77, of Black River Falls, died Sunday evening, August 29, 2010 in his home under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.
Dan was born on January 18, 1933 in Galesville, WI to Haskell and Alice (Westlie) McKeeth. He was raised by an uncle and aunt, Miles and Polly McKeeth, on the McKeeth farm near Galesville.
He graduated from Galesville High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Military Police. After his discharge from the Army, Dan enrolled in college and graduated from Wisconsin State College – River Falls.
Dan married Marilyn A. Anderson on December 28, 1956 at First Presbyterian Church in Galesville. The couple lived in Eatontown, NJ, River Falls, WI and Neillsville before settling in Black River Falls.
He was employed as a farm credit loan officer and as a bookkeeper. After retirement, he became employed part-time by the Krohn Clinic Pharmacy and Buswell Funeral Home.
Dan was a member of the Black River Falls United Methodist Church where he had served on various committees, held various offices, and served as a confirmation mentor. He had served as a Black River Falls city alderman for two terms and also served as board president of the Black River Memorial Hospital, president of the Black River Falls Chamber of Commerce, president of the Jackson County Interfaith Caregivers, and president of the Wisconsin Agricultural Bankers Association. He also was a past master, secretary, and treasurer of Black River Lodge No. 74, F. & A.M. and had the distinction of having conducted 79 Masonic funerals. He was a member of the Skyline Golf Course and a former member of the Black River Falls Rotary Club.
He bowled in a Pines Lanes bowling league for several years and was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed the Packers, the Badgers, the Brewers, and the Black River Falls TIGERS. In addition to bowling and golf, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and travel.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; his daughter, Mari McKeeth of Normal, IL; a sister, Charlotte (Richard) Ryder and family of Trempealeau; special family friends, Heidi Weatherford of Urbana, IL, and Ruth and Charles Buswell and family of Black River Falls; numerous cousins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Alice McKeeth; uncle and aunt, Miles and Polly McKeeth; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alf and Julia Anderson.
Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Black River Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 4 P.M. on Thursday in the Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville, WI.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, September 1, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. There will also be a Masonic prayer service at 7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to either Black River Falls United Methodist Church, Jackson County Interfaith Caregivers, or Black River Memorial Hospice.
