Maximina “Nina” Garden, age 97, of Black River Falls and formerly of Boqueron, Puerto Rico, died Friday evening, July 9, 2010, in Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls, under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice. Maximina “Nina” Acosta was born on May 20, 1913 in Boqueron, Puerto Rico to Ramon Acosta and Paula Rodriguez. She was raised in Puerto Rico. She married Luis A. Garden in Brooklyn, NY. Luis A. Garden died on June 22, 1952. In addition to having lived in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Mrs. Garden had lived in Brooklyn, NY and Dorchester, MA. While living in Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Garden was employed as a seamstress in a garment factory. She moved to Black River Falls 9 years ago, where she first lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda B. Garden-Cameron and Dr. Etson Cameron Jr., MD. She has been a resident of the Pine View Care Center for the past 2 years. Mrs. Garden was a member of Our Lady of Monseratte Sacred Heart Society in Brooklyn, NY. Her hobbies included sewing, card playing, watching airplanes, dancing, travelling, and attending religious activities at church. Survivors include her son, Luis (Frances Lucerna) Garden Acosta of Brooklyn, NY; her daughter, Lynda B. (Dr. Etson Cameron Jr., MD) Garden-Cameron of Black River Falls, WI; and 2 granddaughters, Arianne Garden Vazquez of Seattle, WA and Raisa Lin Garden-Lucerna of Brooklyn, NY. In addition to her husband, Luis A. Garden, Mrs. Garden was preceded in death by Tomasa Rodriguez, Paula Pagan, Eloy Acosta, and 8 other siblings. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Our Lady of Monseratte, 134 Vernon Ave., Brooklyn, NY under the care of Hess-Miller Funeral Home, 64-19 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village, NY. Burial, next to her husband, will be in the Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY. The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, is assisting the family with arrangements.
