Ferris L. Tande, age 86, of Black River Falls, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 in Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse.
Ferris Lloyd Tande was born on February 10, 1924 in Alma Center to Thomas and Ida (Jahn) Tande. He was raised in Alma Center and graduated from Alma Center Lincoln High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Italy where he drove a semi-truck transporting prisoners of war.
He married Valda May Smith on May 7, 1945 in Black River Falls. The couple first lived in Hixton for 8 years. They were married for 62 years and raised their family mainly in the Squaw Creek area. The family had also lived in Sparta for 2 years. Valda Tande died on December 27, 2007. Ferris had been a resident of Pine View Care Center since November of 2008.
Ferris was first employed as a school bus driver and as a truck driver for Bob Comstock hauling strawberries. He also had been employed at the Hixton Egg Company. He later worked at Hart Tie and Lumber for 45 years.
Ferris was a hard working individual. He enjoyed mowing lawns, gardening, cutting wood, bird watching, trout fishing, and deer hunting.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Lee (Robert) Olson of Balsam Lake, WI, Ida (John) Carlin of Madison, and Joy (Joel) Peterson of Black River Falls; 2 sons, Milo (Susan) Tande and Steven (Sherri) Tande both of Black River Falls; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Tande of West Allis; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren with 2 more great grandchildren on the way; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Valda, Ferris was preceded in death by a son, Gerhard “Gary” Tande; 5 sisters, Gloria, Helen, Doris, Marlene and Florence; and 3 brothers, Forrest , Kenneth, and Faye Tande.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Family Worship Assembly, Black River Falls. Burial, with military honors, will be in Riverside Cemetery, also in Black River Falls. Pastor Greg Kalyvas will officiate.
Friends and family members are invited for visitation from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and at the Family Worship Assembly on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M.
