Joan K. Herbert Black River Falls, WI Joan Kay Herbert, age 64, of Black River Falls, WI, passed away Sunday, August 09, 2009, at Family Heritage Care Center, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice. She was born to Chester and Verna (Kolve) Sletteland on August 20, 1944, in Whitehall, WI. Joan grew up in Whitehall, where she graduated from Whitehall High School. On August 18, 1965, Joan was united in marriage to John A. Herbert. Together they lived in various locations and returned to Black River Falls in 2004. Joan was employed at Mr. G’s clothing store, of Black River Falls, as a sales clerk, and was also employed as an aide at the Jackson County Training and Employment Center of Black River Falls. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing, and fishing. Joan is survived by her mother, Verna Sletteland of Black River Falls; a daughter, Sandra (Joel) Anderson of Black River Falls; a son, Tom (Kelli) Herbert of Black River Falls; two granddaughters, Stephanie Gaede and Alyssa Anderson; three sisters, Loretta Sletteland of Eau Claire, WI, Ione (Calvin) Olson and Sara (William) McNulty both of Black River Falls; a brother, Mark (Gini) Sletteland of Henderson, NV; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her father, Chester Sletteland. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, WI. Rev. David Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, August, 11, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Buswell Funeral Home. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home Memorials are preferred to Black River Memorial Hospice Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
