James G. Kernan, age 78, of Black River Falls, died on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Black River Memorial Hospital under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice. James was born on January 2, 1932 in Green Bay to Leo and Dorothy (Plont) Kernan. He was raised in the Green Bay area. He married Myrtle Metcalf on March 17, 1950 in Neillsville. He was employed by the Trane Company of La Crosse, as a self-employed milk hauler for the Melrose Co-op Creamery, by Fort McCoy as a boiler tender, as a truck driver at Kiel, WI, and as a machinist at Patten Tractor of Elmhurst, IL. He also had farmed at Cataract, WI for many years. James liked the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and watching birds. He also enjoyed hunting with dogs when he was younger. He is survived by a daughter, Patty (Matt) Vacek of Rogers, MN; 6 sons, Mike (Joni) Kernan and Steve Kernan both of Black River Falls, Chris (Robin) Kernan of Addison, IL, Brad (Linda) Kernan of Osseo, WI; Russell (Michelle) Kernan of St. Nazianz, WI, and Dan (Pam) Kernan of Neillsville; numerous grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a sister, Pat Gille of Green Bay; 2 brothers, Allen Kernan of Pewaukee and Ken Kernan of Black River Falls; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Myrtle; his parents, Leo Kernan and Dorothy Batterton; a daughter, Cheryl; a grandson, Keith Poole; a daughter-in-law, Marie Kernan; and 2 brothers, Marvin and Donald Kernan. A celebration of James' life will be held from noon to 3 P.M. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Parkland Village Pavillion, Julianna Rd., Black River Falls.
