Anton O. “Tony” Hanson, Jr. age 89, of Black River Falls, died Friday, January 29, 2010 in Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls.
He was born on May 5, 1920 in Melrose to Anton Sr. and Amanda (Haugen) Hanson. He was raised in the Melrose area and graduated from Melrose High School. He later attended technical school at River Falls.
Anton married Noralee Doud on January 11, 1947 in Blair. The couple lived in Melrose before moving to Black River Falls. Noralee died on January 10, 2001.
He was first employed by various farmers and then by Kimball’s Grocery Store. He also was employed by the Lutz Lumberyard for one year and by Ohearn Trucking for 11 years. Prior to his retirement, Anton was employed by the Black River Falls Municipal Utilities as an operator for 33 years.
Anton was a member of the Black River Falls Rod and Gun Club. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, sports (Cubs, Packers, and Brewers), cooking, and gardening. He was always ready to help others.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Bonnie (Leo Jr.) Bloczynski of Black River Falls and Anita (Rudolph) Federman of Santa Maria, CA; 3 sons, Greg (Mary) Hanson of Black River Falls, Mark (Gloria Jimenez-Sevilla) Hanson of Annapolis, MD, and Todd (Dawn) Hanson of Adams, WI; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Noralee, Anton was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Wendy Bloczynski; 5 brothers,Arthur, Glenn, Merlin, Myron and Harrison Hanson; a sister, Elmira Peterson; an unnamed infant sister; and his golden retriever, Teal.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Buswell Funeral Home. Pastor Kathleen Jury will officiate.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
