Morris S. Keshick, age 62, of Black River Falls, WI, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Pine View Care Center, while under the care of Black River Hospice. He was born on June 30, 1947 to Norman and Alice (Twinn) Winneshiek in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Morris grew up in Wisconsin Rapids. At age 10 he moved to California, where he graduated from Venice High School, Venice, CA.
While living in California, in addition to other various jobs, Morris worked as a Shuttle Bus Driver for the Indian Center in Los Angeles.
In 2006, Morris moved back to Wisconsin, where he lived in Black River Falls.
Morris enjoyed singing and dancing at Pow Wows, playing and making flutes, doing bead work, going to the casino, and playing bingo. He was a very talented silversmith. Morris also worked on automobiles doing auto body repairs.
Morris is survived by 6 sisters, Mary Ruth “Morningstar” Meyers of Ocean View, HI, Sadie (Larry) Garvin of Black River Falls, Paula (Herb) Cleveland of Black River Falls, WI, Eunice (Ron) Mallory of Black River Falls, WI, Rachel Winneshiek of Tomah, WI, Annie Winneshiek of Black River Falls, WI; 2 brothers, Clayton Winneshiek of Black River Falls, WI, David Twinn of Lancaster, CA; Indian brother Chuck Smith of Vesper, WI; aunt, Annabelle Winneshiek-Lowe of Hatfield, WI; numerous others nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Alice; sister, Karen Keshick; uncle, Raymond Twinn.
Traditional Native American services will be held Friday, October 16, 2009, 12 noon, at the Ho-Chunk District One Community Center, Black River Falls. Dennis Funmaker will be presiding over services. Burial will follow in Decorah Cemetery, Black River Falls. Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday, October 16, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the Ho-Chunk District One Community Center.
