Elizabeth A. “Betty” Lipka Cavanaugh, age 76, of Hatfield, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 31, 2011 in Black River Memorial Hospital.

She was born on December 27, 1934 in Merrill, WI to Florian and Bertha (Wittwer) Zogg. She was raised in Merrill and graduated from Merrill High School. She later graduated from teacher’s normal school.

Betty married Victor Lipka and they resided near Hatfield for many years.
Betty and Victor were married for 43 years before his death. She married Charles Cavanaugh on June 25, 2009 in Black River Falls.

She taught grade school for one year. She later was employed as a waitress for many years and had been employed by the Inwood Supper Club of Hatfield, and Jacks or Better Supper Club, Country Kitchen and Perkins all of Black River Falls. For the past 5 years, Betty has been employed as a tour guide by the Jackson County Historical Society.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, taking walks with her daughters, spending time outdoors, reading, and watching movies with her husband, Charlie. She also enjoyed music, singing, and spending time with her grandsons.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Cavanaugh; daughters, Vicki Lipka, Donica (Chuck) Byrns, and Alina (Jim) Limberg; grandsons, Jamie (Kristin) Gjerseth, Jesse Limberg, Austen Limberg, Cody Byrns, and Ethan Byrns; great grandsons, Jayden Gjerseth, Zachiah Gjerseth, and Isaac Gjerseth; brothers, Andrew Zogg and Paul Zogg; sisters, Joyce Woller and Alice Steen; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Victor Lipka; parents, Florian and Bertha “Birdie” Zogg; and a sister, Mary Stahel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Private burial services will take place on Sunday, November 6, at the Hatfield Cemetery. Rev. Steven Humphrey will officiate.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5 to 7 P.M. on Friday and from 10 A.M. until services on Saturday at the Buswell Funeral Home.
