Mary Helen Stover, age 87, of Black River Falls, WI, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Black River Memorial Hospital, while under the care of Black River Hospice.
Mary was born July 25, 1922 in the Town of Brockway, the daughter of Mary (Sindicic) and Ignatz Haipek. She was raised in the Town of Brockway on the family farm. She attended Vaudreuil Grade School and graduated from Black River Falls High School. After graduation she moved to Chicago and Homewood, IL, where she was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co., until her retirement. While living in Chicago she was united in marriage to Lester E. Stover on April 4, 1964. She returned to the Black River Falls area and lived in the Town of Irving and in the city of Black River Falls.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Black River Falls.
Mary liked to garden, crochet and traveling. She loved animals, especially cats.
Mary is survived by her brother, Mark P. Haipek of Tuscon, AZ; stepdaughters, Mary Ann Paulsen of Bradenton, FL, and Pat (Robert) Verhoeven of Winfield, IL; stepsons, Roger (Donna) Stover of Missouri City, TX, Bruce (Jane) Stover of Nobelsville, IN; nephews, Ted (Virginia) Haipek of Black River Falls, WI, Charles (Charlene) Forman of Wooddale, IL, Philip (Sigrida) O’Keefe of Winona, MN; nieces, Agnes Haipek of Milwaukee, WI, Helen Haipek of Black River Falls, WI, Mary Ann (Robert) Nussbaum of DelRey Beach, FL, Rosemary (Jerry) Juravic of Oak Park, IL; grandchildren; many other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lester E. Stover; her parents, brothers, Stanley and Jacob Haipek; sisters Helen Haipek, Anne Forman, Veronica Matonich, Catherine Kerwin, Marcella O’Keefe; nephews, John Matonich and James Haipek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 1, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Black River Falls. Father John Steiner will be officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, October 1, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Memorial may be given to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
