Pauline “Polly” J. Holmgreen, 82, of Black River Falls, passed away January 4, 2011, at her son’s home, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice. She was born February 14, 1928 to Arthur and Valborg (Nessett) Hagen in Black River Falls, WI. Polly has spent her entire life in Black River Falls. She graduated from Black River Falls High School. On September 17 1947, she was united in marriage to Mahlon Holmgreen. Polly worked as a nurse’s aide at the Black River Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. She also worked as a clerk at Larson’s Ready to Wear and Schultz Brothers Variety Store. Polly enjoyed reading murder mysteries, has a collection of 1000 books, love of giraffes, crossword puzzles, counting and seeing the Boys and Girls Club kids as they walked by, and watching TV, news and current events. She had a good sense of humor. She was proud to be a Democrat. Polly was a member of Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Polly’s favorite color was purple, if inclined please wear something purple to the service in honor of Polly. She is survived by a daughter, Mala (Randy) Johnson of Wauwatosa, WI; son, Bruce (Peggy) Holmgreen of Black River Falls; 7 grandchildren, Erik (Lucie) Holmgreen, Kris (JP) Holmgreen, Krista (Chris), Marissa (Tyler), and Samuel Johnson, Matt (Kim) and Kyle (Andrea) Holmgeen; other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon; sons, Tim and Mark; sisters, Dorothy Koran, Doris McLain, Agatha “Gay” Olson; brothers, Kerwood and Jack Hagen. A memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 8, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Rev. Richard W. Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls. Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday, January 7, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Buswell Funeral Home. Family and friends are also invited for visitation Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Jackson County Humane Society, Black River Memorial Hospice, or Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County.
