Betty E. Carisch, age 87, of Black River Falls

Betty E. Carisch, age 87, of Black River Falls, died on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls, under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.
Betty was born on August 20, 1923 in Black River Falls to George and Lizzie (Reineck) Northup. She was a lifelong resident of Black River Falls and graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1941.
She married Robert “Butch” E. Carisch on December 7, 1946 at Wesley United Methodist Church, La Crosse. Butch Carisch died on November 23, 1998.
Betty began working as a part-time nurse’s aide at the former Krohn Clinic and Hospital, Black River Falls, in 1939. She was employed on a part-time basis until she graduated from high school when she became employed full-time. She became a laboratory technician in 1952. When the Black River Memorial Hospital was built in 1968, she became employed at the hospital until retiring on December 31, 1987 after 48 ½ years of employment.
She was a member of the Black River Falls United Methodist Church and the Thompson-RedCloud VFW Post 1959 Auxiliary. She also served as an escort at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Tomah and as a Tuesday Helper at Pine View Care Center of Black River Falls for 10 years until she began experiencing severe health problems.
Betty is survived by nephews Dan (Avie) Gomer of Black River Falls and David Stafseth of Spring Hill, FL; nieces, Mary J. Anderson of Sturtevant and Mary S. Morris of Flower Mound, TX; very special great nephews and great nieces, Todd Gomer and Kyle Gomer both of Black River Falls, Sam Gomer of Madison, WI, and Kristin (Tom) Reigel of Marshfield, and Deirache (LaRae) Anderson, Jenifer (Tom) Johnson, and Andrea Krezinski all of Sturtevant, WI, and Kimberly (David) BarenBorg of Mercer Island, WA. She is further survived by 14 great, great nephews and nieces who were very, very special to her.
In addition to her husband, Robert “Butch” Carisch, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dona Deringer; and a brother, Gerald Northup, and his wife, Maxine.
Private, family graveside services and burial will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, December 5, 2010 in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls. There will be no further services or visitation.
Memorials may be given to Black River Memorial Hospice.
