About Buswell Funeral Home

Buswell Funeral Home

The origins of the Buswell Funeral Home trace back to 1943 when a group of local investors from Federation Cooperative formed a funeral cooperative known as Jackson Funeral Cooperative. The investors purchased a historic residence on South Second Street and converted it into a funeral home. This was one of a very few Wisconsin funeral homes to be operated as a cooperative. The late Gaylord Mattson became the first funeral director/manager of the Co-op Funeral Home.

In 1950, the late Theodore “Ted” Langlois became the funeral director/manager of the Co-op Funeral Home. In 1951, Langlois and the late Harmon Galston purchased the funeral home and changed the name to the Colonial Funeral Home. In 1954, Langlois and Galston again changed the funeral home name to the Langlois-Galston Funeral Home.

In 1974, Charles “Chuck” and Ruth Buswell purchased the funeral home which was renamed Buswell Funeral Home. Since purchasing the funeral home, Chuck and Ruth Buswell have made many improvements and additional service offerings. The funeral home also underwent a major remodeling/building project in 1984.

In 2006, the Buswells entered into a partnership arrangement with fourth generation funeral director Todd Torkelson of Torkelson Funeral Homes (6 locations). This partnership has afforded Buswell Funeral Home with expanded staff, product, equipment, and service opportunities. Ruth and Chuck are proud and pleased to have Todd Torkelson as their business partner.

In November of 2006, the Buswells welcomed funeral director Larry Winkler to their staff. Chuck, Ruth, and Larry are totally committed to upholding the standards of excellence of the Buswell Funeral Home..
